Internet connections can fluctuate, thus impacting the flow of your shoot. The following tips should help you troubleshoot any internet-related issues you may experience during a shoot.
Check Director & Subject Internet Speed
When a user enters a room for the first time, OpenReel runs an initial internet speed test. Both the Director’s & Subject’s download and upload speed should be: GREATER THAN 3Mb/s for best performance. Understand that even if the internet is slightly higher than 3Mb/s, this will still be on the lower end of the internet speed. Check Internet Speed
Check the Bandwidth
The bandwidth indicator is a visual display of the quality of the connection between the Subject and the Director. It is dependent on both the Subject & Director's internet speeds. The bandwidth indicator updates in real-time during the video shoot. The more bars in the bandwidth indicator that are lit up blue, the stronger the connection.
Re-Establish Connection
If you are having issues for any reason, the first line of trouble shooting should be to re-establish your own connection as the Director. Do this by refreshing your browser page.
If there are still recurring issues, re-establish your Subject’s connection. Do this by clicking on the 3 dots from the blue tab on your Subject’s screen on OpenReel. Then click on the refresh button.
Watch This Video!
Watch this video to learn about status and connection indicators the Director can see. The Director should check these statuses at the beginning of every shoot.
