Film Multiple Subjects in Different Locations
Multicam gives you the ability to pair multiple phones/tablets to the same room, thus allowing you to record multiple Subjects from different locations (or multiple angles of one Subject in one location).
Pair Multiple Devices
iOS Devices
Optimize iOS devices: Make sure that each Subject’s device is optimized to use OpenReel. (Here's a handy iOS Device Prep Sheet!)
Download OR Capture 1.0: Make sure each IOS device has the latest version of the OR Capture 1.0 app!
Send Out Session ID: Once all the Subjects devices are set up, the Director needs to send the Subjects the Session ID code via text, call, email, or slack. The Session ID code is located at the top right corner of the Session page.
Note: The Session ID code is case sensitive.
Input Session ID: The Subjects should then input the Session ID code into the OR Capture App and type in their name. Accept terms and conditions then click ‘Continue’.
Join Session: Once the Subject inputs the Session ID code, they can now click ‘Join’ to enter the Session or the Director can click ‘Accept’ on their side for the Subject to join the Session.
Paired: The Subjects’ iOS devices are now paired to the Session and are ready to be recorded.
Webcams
Optimize Webcam devices: Make sure that each Subject’s device is optimized to use OpenReel. (Here's a handy Webcam Subject Prep guide!)
Send out Session Invite: The Director needs to send each Subject an invite, by navigating to the ‘3 dots menu’ to access ‘Session Options’, click on the ‘Invite Others’ tab, and click on the ‘Subject(s) Invite’ tab. Input the Subject’s name and email address. To add multiple Subjects’ email addresses, click on the ‘plus’ button. Then hit ‘Send’.
Note: Webcam Subject invite links will expire after 48 hours. The Director will need to send out the invites the night before or the day of the shoot.
Join Session: The Subject will receive an email invite from info@openreel.com. The Subject should check their spam folder as well, to see if the invite landed there.
The Subject needs to click on the ‘Go to Room’ button to access the Session. Then they need to accept ‘Terms and Conditions’ then click on ‘Join Room’
Paired: When the Subjects start pairing to the Session, when their browser prompts them to allow microphone and camera permissions, make sure that each Subject accepts those permissions. Once they have accepted those permissions the Webcam Subjects are now ready to be recorded. (The Webcam Subject Prep Sheet covers these permissions so this is a great sheet to send to your recording subjects!)
View Multiple Video Feeds
Once you have multiple devices paired into the Session, the Director can toggle between the feeds using the blue tabs at the top of the Subject screen.
View All Feeds
To see all feeds at once, click the eyeball icon in the top right-hand corner of the Subject’s screen in OpenReel.
Note: The Director will not be able to record and view all the Subject’s feed at the same time. The Director will need to exit out of the gallery view, by clicking on the ‘X’ at the top right corner of the page, to start the recording.
Audio Settings
Prior to recording, the Director will need to set up each of the Subject’s specific Audio Settings according to the type of equipment the Subjects will be using for the shoot.
Within OpenReel, there are three different audio settings you can work with: External Mic, No External Mic, and Headphones. If you are using external mics with multiple iOS Subjects, you may need to set up an external conference line on another device to allow the Subjects to communicate with one another.
